Leee John (23 giugno 1957), nato ad mwkaHackney da una famiglia originaria di mwkqSaint Lucia, studiò a mwkgNew Yorkcite-ref-cl-2-1[2] e fu cantante dei gruppi The Velvelettes, mwmqThe Delfonicscite-ref-am-1-1[1] e Chairmen of The Boardcite-ref-am-1-2[1]. Di queste ultime due formazioni vi faceva parte anche il chitarrista e bassista di mwowNorthampton Ashley Ingram (27 novembre 1960).cite-ref-cl-2-2[2] In seguito, John e Ingram formarono i Fizzz; tornato nel suo paese d'origine, John suonò anche nei Midnight Express e studiò teatro alla mwqaAnna Scher Theatre School di Londra.cite-ref-cl-2-3[2] Agli inizi del 1981, i due artisti formarono gli Imagination (omaggio a mwrqmwrgImagine di mwrwJohn Lennon).cite-ref-am-1-3[1]cite-ref-5[5] di cui faceva parte anche il bassista di mwuaMontego Bay Errol Kennedy (9 giugno 1953), ex batterista nei mwugBoys' Brigade e negli Air Training Corps.cite-ref-cl-2-4[2]

I tre mandarono una versione demo di mwwgBody Talk ai produttori Steve Jolley e Tony Swain che la pubblicarono come singolo nell'aprile del 1981. Il pezzo raggiunse la quarta posizione nella mwxaUK Singles Chart nel maggio dello stesso anno,cite-ref-british-hit-singles-albums-6-0[6] vendendo mwyq250 000 copie nel mwygRegno Unito e rimanendo diciotto settimane nella mwywTop 50. Alla fine del 1982 i tre intrapresero un tour europeo che registrò il tutto esaurito.

I singoli degli Imagination pubblicati a partire dalla metà del decennio ebbero invece scarso successo.
